Nichia Initiates UK Lawsuit Against Seoul Semiconductor's Acriche Products

On May 13, 2008, Nichia Corporation (“Nichia”) filed a patent infringement lawsuit in the UK against a Korean company, Seoul Semiconductor Co. Ltd. (“Seoul Semiconductor”) and its UK distributor, Avnet EMG Ltd (“Avnet”) seeking injunctive relief and compensation for damages.

The subject of this lawsuit, seeking an injunction and recovery of damages, is the Acriche Series White LED product manufactured by Seoul Semiconductor, which Nichia believes infringes their two patents [EP(UK)599224 and EP(UK)622858]

Nichia has also filed lawsuits against Seoul Semiconductor (which includes its Japanese and U.S. subsidiaries as well in certain cases) for injunctive relief and compensation for damages, which are all currently pending, in the U.S. for design patent infringement of side-view white LEDs ( Nichia Asserts Design Patents Against Seoul Semiconductor , The jury affirmed Seoul Semiconductor’s willful infringement of Nichia design patents ), in Japan for patent infringement of white power LEDs ( Nichia files Patent Infringement Lawsuit against Japan Seoul Semiconductor Co. Ltd. over White LEDs ) and chip-type white LEDs( Nichia files Patent Infringement Lawsuit (2nd Lawsuit) against Japan Seoul Semiconductor Co. Ltd. over White LEDs ), and in Korea for chip-type white LEDs ( Nichia Files Patent Infringement Lawsuit against Seoul Semiconductor Co. Ltd. over White LEDs in Korea )and white power LEDs ( Nichia Files Patent Infringement Lawsuit (2nd Lawsuit) against Seoul Semiconductor Co. Ltd. over White LEDs in Korea )
