Nichia seeks provisional injunction against Christmas illumination lighting

July 29, 2005 - Nichia Corporation announced today that it had filed a provisional injunction action in Osaka District Court to enjoin Doshisha Corporation from infringing Nichia's patent.

Nichia believes white LEDs used in certain Christmas illumination light products (Part No. LED-C200WBG) sold by Doshisha infringe one of Nichia's white LED patents (No. 3503139), and seeks injunctive relief to enjoin the sales of the products.

The patent is one of Nichia's patents concerning white LED technology, which enables white emission by combining semiconductor chip and certain garnet phosphor. In that system, the phosphor is excited by the emission of the chip, and emits down-converted light. Nichia holds patents for white LED technology in other countries as well as in Japan.

Nichia will take necessary measure to protect its intellectual property rights against any companies in any part of the world.
