Nichia wins Patent Infringement Lawsuit against ASUS Japan and its distributor

On December 23, 2021, in a patent infringement lawsuit which Nichia Corporation (“Nichia”) filed against ASUS Japan Inc. (“ASUS JAPAN”), a Japanese affiliate of Taiwanese Company ASUSTeK Computer Inc. (“ASUS”), and TD SYNNEX K.K. (“SYNNEX”), a distributor of ASUS JAPAN (collectively, “Defendants”), Tokyo District Court rendered a judgment, holding that defendants have infringed Nichia’s patents.

In its judgment, the court found that ASUS’s smartphones, ZenFone Go (ZB551KL) and ZenFone 2 Laser (ZE500KL) were equipped with white LED for flash light which infringes Nichia’s patents JP5177317 and JP5610056 and selling foregoing smartphones by ASUS Japan and SYNNEX constitutes an infringement of Nichia’s foregoing patents and the court ordered defendants to compensate Nichia for damages.

To protect fair business activity, Nichia seeks to enforce its patents and other intellectual property rights and takes actions against alleged infringers in any country where appropriate and necessary.
