Cathode Materials for Lithium-ion Batteries

Nichia has been developing and manufacturing cathode materials for Lithium-ion batteries, based on its core technologies in powder synthesis Nichia has built up during its many years as a leading phosphor manufacturer. By carrying out the entire manufacturing process from raw materials to final products, Nichia has also been swiftly serving various demands of its customers and consistently supplying solutions for Lithium-ion batteries that meet the demands of higher capacity and higher safety. Recently, Lithium-ion batteries are required to make further progress in accordance with their applications such as large-sized batteries with high reliability and high-power operation , and for portable devices with low price and high capacity. As one of world-leading manufacturer of cathode materials for Lithium-ion batteries, Nichia will continue to supply products with the optimum particle design in order to keep up with rapidly expanding applications for Lithium-ion batteries.

Ever-expanding Applications

LiNixCoyMnzO2

Utilizing Nichia’s unique coprecipitation technique and performing atomic-level mixing, Nichia offers products with optimum particle design for various applications. Ternary cathode materials (NMC) have an advantage of reducing the use of Cobalt and achieving both excellent output and excellent safety, making them the optimum materials for large-size batteries (i.e. in-vehicle use). In the coming years, an exponential increase in demand is anticipated and Nichia is committed to the development of these key materials.

Applications: small mobile devices, notebook computers, electric power tools, large-size Lithium-ion batteries, in-vehicle batteries, etc.

LiCoO2

LiCoO2

As one of the best manufacturers of cathode materials in the world,Nichia produces lithium cobalt oxide.Nichia consistently supplies high-quality products created through its streamlined production processes, and receives high evaluation from the customers.

Applications: small mobile devices, notebook computers, etc.

LiCoO2

LiFePO4

High purity and homogeneous particles are designed through Nichia's original synthetic process.High output characteristics and packing density are achieved while maintaining the high safety and long life characteristic of the olivine-based cathode material. As a rare metal-free material such as Cobalt, it is expected to be used in a wide range of applications.

Applications: Energy storage systems, In-vehicle emergency call systems, and more.
