Phosphors

Phosphors

Phosphors are substances that convert energy from electron beams, electromagnetic waves, and ultraviolet photons primarily into visible light.

Nichia's Speciality Phosphor and Phosphors for X-ray Applications

Nichia's phosphors are used in medical applications, baggage inspection, and image intensifiers, to protect peoples health and safety.

Baggage Inspection

Phosphors for X-ray are used for baggage inspection, such as security checks at airports.

X-ray Photography

Phosphors are used for medical applications, such as X-ray inspections.

Features of Nichia's Phosphor

  • High Efficiency

Nichia's phosphor has high efficiency due to the control of impurities and internal defects as well as improved crystallinity.

  • Particle Shape Control
  • Sharp Particle Size Distribution

Particle uniformity is achieved through synthesis and dispersion processing technologies cultivated over more than half a century of phosphor manufacturing and development. Another feature is that they are highly stability and easy to handle.

Characteristics and particle size can be discussed separately with Nichia.

Under Development: Fluorescent Lanthanide Complex

Fluorescent Lanthanide Complex are composed of Eu(III) with organic ligands. The organic ligands function as antennas to absorb blue light. The absorbed energy is subsequently transferred to the Eu(III), resulting in the emission of red light.

While conventional Eu(III) inorganic phosphors and common fluorescent lanthanide complex are typically excited only by UV light below 400nm, Nichia's Fluorescent Lanthanide Complex shows a very sharp red luminescence with high efficiency even when excited by blue light at 450nm.
