Result of the infringement lawsuit on PSS technology-related patents

On March 19, 2020, Nichia Corporation (“Nichia”) and Corlant Inc. (“Corlant”), a distributor of automotive aftermarket parts under the brand of Valenti, have reached a judicial settlement during the proceeding at Tokyo District Court. Corlant acknowledged that accused products fall within the scope of Nichia’s patents in relation to PSS technology*. Further, Corlant agreed to cease manufacturing and selling accused products, and to pay settlement money.

Nichia seeks to protect its patents and other intellectual property rights and takes actions against alleged infringers in any country where appropriate and necessary.

* PSS is an abbreviation of Patterned Sapphire Substrate, and PSS technology is one of the core technologies in the field of LED chip. At present, Nichia owns over 100 patents in more than 15 countries in relation to PSS technology.
