Nichia will exhibit and speak at MDSM 2024 in Orlando, FL

On February 14th and 15th, Nichia will proudly exhibit at the 2024 Motor, Drive Systems, and Magnetics Conference (MDSM) in Orlando, FL. Additionally, Paul File, Senior Account Manager, Nichia America, will speak about very promising new type of SmFeN magnetic materials currently under development on Wednesday, February 14th.

As rare earth prices (Nd, Dy, Eu, etc) continue remain elevated and supply chain issues persist, it is critical to find alternatives and implement wholistic solutions for various magnetic and motor needs. The focus of this conference is to showcase recent advancements in magnetic materials and motor drive technology. MDSM is hosted as a dual conference providing synergy between magnet and motor design.

Nichia will proudly exhibit its full portfolio of compounded magnetic materials with a focus on its injection bonded SmFeN, which boasts process and performance advantages versus conventional rare earth materials. Nichia promises to continue work toward developing improved magnetic material grades with higher surface flux density, superior intrinsic coercivity, and reduced cost on a system level.

• Title: "Bonded Samarium Iron Nitride – A Case for Automotive Usage"

Nichia will speak about the development of Polyphenylene Sulfide (PPS) resin-bonded Samarium Iron Nitride (SmFeN) magnetic materials, which are well-suited for automotive and harsh environment applications due to their long-term durability. In addition to superior oxidation, water, and rust resistance, Nichia's SmFeN PPS materials also boast improved high temperature stability and reduced flux loss over time. During the talk, Nichia will also review performance against existing bonded NdFeB PPS materials through various comparisons and case studies.
