Tokushima, Japan – 24 September 2026: Nichia, the world's largest LED and laser diode manufacturer and inventor of the high-brightness blue and white LEDs, is pleased to share that laser projectors equipped with Nichia laser diodes (LDs) have been installed across all eight screens at Cinema Sunshine Kitajima in Tokushima, Japan. As a result, audiences can now enjoy an enhanced cinematic experience utilizing Nichia’s LD technology throughout the theater.

Nichia's LDs are widely used as light sources in cinema laser projectors in Japan and overseas, enabling high brightness and wide color gamut performance. This performance supports vivid color reproduction and bright, clear images, helping to create a more immersive visual experience for audiences while conveying the atmosphere and artistic intent of each film.

In 2024, Nichia's LD technology was recognized for its contribution to the advancement of the motion picture industry and received a Scientific and Technical Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). Through this installation, LD technology that originated in Tokushima and has earned recognition on the global stage can now be experienced in the prefecture where it was born.
